I am drawn to the beauty of sumac trees after a snowfall; to the way the snow outlines their wildness as they shake their red berries in defiance of the winter snow.

Winter paints a magical, starkly beautiful landscape in the empty fields.

In the Autumn, the evening shadows become very long in the golden light. Coming out of the athletics center at Middlebury College the handball courts cast a shadow stretching toward the brilliantly lit birch trees behind the Mahaney Center for the Arts. The sky was dramatic as only in the Fall.

As the storm ended, the cloud cover began to lift on the mountains seen from Munger Road in Middlebury. It was a magical moment

Down the road from The Handmade Papers Gallery in Brooklin, Maine, is Center Harbor. Looking up the hill from the harbor is a field filled with wildflowers, Queen Ann's Lace, wild poppies and daylilies.

When Middlebury College built their BioEnergy Plant, a field of willow was planted near the College. In the spring, the young plants emerged in oranges and reds, glorious in the early morning light.

Coming over the Appalachian Gap in late October as the sunset-painted sky set off the bare branches of the trees in dramatic silhouette. The surrounding mountains were still awash in fall colors. It was truly an Autumn Symphony.

A walk on the Trail Around Middlebury (TAM) in the fall inspired me to try using the natural colors of the plant fibers I had gathered to make this painting.

Three weeks before the winter solstice at the top of Bennington Gap, the afternoon sun lit the scene with a warm yellow-orange color; the stands of white birches shimmered in the golden light; the subtle shades and textures of winter grasses and seedpods, reds, oranges and many shades of browns and purples. And the dark clouds on the horizon gave way to blue sky above.

The mountains of Vermont are just as beautiful from across the border. Eastern Townships, near Lake Memphremagog, Quebec Province, Canada.

In the fertile valley of Lake Memphremagog in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, we passed this field of sunflowers lit by the late afternoon light.

Our first evening in Bagan, we went to watch the sunset from the top of the Shwesandaw Paya, a large white pyramid-style pagoda offering a 360 degree view of the plains of Bagan (a vast 42sq. mile Archeological Zone in Central Burma covered with the ruins of 4400 temples).
